I either want a .357 mag, a .45 acp, a .44 mag, or the smith and wesson 500 or 460. I do have somewhat of a budget because I am in college. I am just wanting a gun that will put a deer down if shot at about 30 to 35 yards at the max. Thanks everyone for your help.

Are there any special models being offered by any companies that will be worth more down the line? What companies hold the most value? I'm looking to buy a .38 revolver, but am not sure which one to buy. I obviously want something fun to throw lead down range with, but that will also hold it's value as well.

I was looking at handguns recently, and I noticed on the Smith & Wesson M&P.40 when you pull the slide back to clear the chamber, it looks like the barrel angles slightly upwards instead of staying completely parallel with the frame. Why is that?

I am going to be getting a new gun. and i cant make up my mind which i want to get. I was look at the new smith and wesson m&p 15-22. It is a AR style .22 cal, and looks like a really nice gun. but i also am thinking about a semi-auto handgun. Which is more fun to shoot? also what cal. handgun is the best? i dont want something huge or tiny, yet something that wont cost $100 each mag of ammo. thanks.

Assuming the person shooting it is in standing position and has firearms training, how accurate can you expect the Smith and Wesson Model 4006 .40 Caliber handgun to be?

I live in the state of Virginia and will be 21 in March. (You must be 21 to own a handgun in VA.) I am looking at options ahead of time so that I can get a gun as soon as possible after my birthday.

Some things that I have to consider when making a choice are size, caliber, and price. Price is a big one since I am attending college right now. Not a whole lot of extra cash lying around.

I am looking for a firearm that can be carried as a concealed weapon (I plan to get a permit) but something that I only need to fire once. (Assuming I hit my target) I realize that I may sound like some freak that is planning to do something horrible. Therefore, let me list my reasons for having a concealed weapon.

#1.) I do not hate the constitution.

#2.) I have no desire to use a gun in a confrontational way, but will use it for self defense if ABSOLUTELY neccessary.

#3.) For home defense and security.

I do not plan to carry a gun on me 24/7. But only when I go out of town and am around bad neighborhoods......like in Baltimore. Ugh.

Anyway I need a quality weapon that can be concealed well. Here are some options that I have thought of:

1911 Colt .45- Good all around hand gun, a bit pricy, but has plenty of kick. Not EXACTLY the easist concealed gun.

Smith and Wesson M&P 360 .375/.38 Revolver- Fires .38 and .375 rounds, small and easily concealed (snub nose) but only has a 5 round cylender. So I would only have 4 shots.

Please comment on these choices and make suggestions!!!

Thanks in advance!

I am looking into buying a handgun for practice and concealed carry. I have bben considering a Glock 27 and a Compact Smith and Wesson M&P .40. Any other guns similar would be considered. I have shot the normal size Smith and Wesson m&p .40. I thought it was good however, I have never shot a different handgun before.

Ok im looking at getting a 9mm preferably. But here are the guns i have come down to.
Springfield XDm
Springfield XD
Glock 19
Sig 226
Sig 226 blackwater
Ruger SR9
Smith and wesson m&p 9
I also thought about a .357 but thers only one i like and its the
Ruger GP100.
P.S I can prob afford a budget of 8-900 dollars i want it to be really durable and really accurate. Probably will put a flashlight on it. Will Be used for plinking and home defense. Dont tell me to not get the 9mm i have decided already that i want to get a 9mm.

I'm most interested in these ten. I am looking for something that carries at least 15 rounds, is lightweight, easy to conceal, and is made of excellent quality for a price that won't make me go broke.
Please rank from best to worst.

1. Glock-19
2. FNP-9
3. Sig P-250
4. Springfield XD-9
5. Ruger SR-9
6. Walther PPS
7. Smith & Wesson M&P-9
8. Taurus 24/7 PRO
9. Beretta 92fs
10. Beretta Px4 Storm
Which is most accurate

I live in Brooklyn, NY. I have a mint-condition (only been fired twice) Smith & Wesson CS9 compact handgun. It is about 7 or 8 years old. I bought it in my neighborhood gun shop for $500.
Also how would I transfer my handgun license to a new owner?

P.S- Please don't answer by telling my to talk to my local police precinct. I know that already. That is why I am asking here first, which is easier and is less hassle than to contact the police precinct.

I will be turning 18 in a couple of days, and I would like to buy a handgun sometime after. I've already fired handguns before, like my uncle's ruger mark III, his glock 17, and a variety of riffles and shotguns. I'd like to start off with a .22 handgun, mainly because I just want to use it for target practice, but also because they're fairly cheap. I was looking at a few, like the Smith and Wesson 22A, or the Sig Mosquito. I'm trying to steer away from the ruger, mainly because when I shot my uncles, it tended to jam up quite a bit. Thanks in advance! Also, I'm not buying a rifle because i already own an old .22 riffle which i use for target practice.

I live in Texas, and have a Concealed Handgun License. I will be flying out to California to help my parents move back to Georgia. I would like to bring my pistol so that once we cross into Arizona, I can carry it in accordance with my CHL. I know I can't "carry" it in California, but I don't mind keeping it locked up for the < 10 hours I'll be there.

I know how to properly fly with my handgun, I do it all the time, but never into California. I know they have some CA DOJ Approved list that your gun must meet to bring it into the state. Mine's a Smith & Wesson M&P compact, .40 and a Kel-Tec P11 9mm (BUG), if that helps.

I know there's a federal law that says you're supposed to be able to travel anywhere with your gun as long as its legal in the origin and destination, but I'm not sure how that applies when I'm traveling West in order to go East.

The intended focus of this question is the legality of bringing my aforementioned pistols into California for less than one day, assuming I comply with their "separate locks" requirements, etc.

Oh, and my apologies that this isn't exactly a hunting question. It was here, or "Law & Ethics," which would almost certainly result in responses of "Go away evil gun owner," etc.

Thanks to all, -Tex

what is the best solution and equipment to use to clean this handgun?
i wish i could thumbs up everyone. and i have a hard choice to make on who is the best. thank you all for the help. i guess i just pick up a starter kit and work my way up to what works best in my use and needs.

I going to buy a handgun whitch is the best gun
the Smith & Wesson model simga 40VE or a Glock model 22 40s&w
thanks.

theres a Smith and wesson model 29 at my grandfathers house and he left it to me but i dont know how to bring over and regisater it in my name.
California but how could i bring it over without getting caught?

Hi I am currently looking at buying a Smith and Wesson handgun for my home protection as well as protection in the country from dangerous animals...

What type of handgun do you recomend? Pistol? Revolver?

Thanks!

is it true that u can use any 50 caliber handgun bullet in it, such as the bullet from a 500 smith and wesson or 50 AE

and how much it is.
and about everything i need to know about handguns!

if the serial # is only a few #s long does the mean the
handgun is an older make?

i dont have the serial # but theres only a few #s on it.

a Smith and Wesson 5 shot (not 6 shot a 5 shot)

Barrel and cylinder break down to load Secret Service Special

the serial # that i dont have is on the grip of the hand gun
(if that means anything)

my dad have one when i was a baby
but he traded it for a Harley,
so i know its worth a pretty penny.

i know nothing about guns or any guns
but it not for me

I got my new 40 caliber pistol home from the gun show and realized it has no safety. It being my first handgun I overlooked this because I was so excited over how good the gun feels in my hand. They now make the .45 with a thumb safety but can anyone tell me why they would manufacture a gun with no safety? If you pull it out of the holster and accidentally contact the trigger it could be trouble.I love the gun but I have to be on my toes 100% when handling loaded.

I wish to use this handgun for target practice and home defense. I wish to purchase the .357 so that I can shoot .38 special and ,357 mag.

Hi,
Which gun is more powerful and why?

1. 9 mm automatic handgun
2. 38 Caliber Smith & Wesson Airweight

I already know a lot about handguns, but i need some unbiased answers. I want a 9 millimeter for sure. I have been looking at springfields, smith and wesson, berrettas and glocks. I want to shoot thousands of target rounds through it and I would also want to carry it. I still need a CCW handgun because i have completed to class.

I have been thinking of purchasing a new hand gun but am unsure
what brand to go with, I am thinking of either a Smith & Wesson, Glock or Beretta. I am pretty sure I want to go with a .40 cal , dose anyone have any suggestion of which gun I should purchases maybe Pros and Cons??

Hello! I have a newbie/novice question about the operation of my new Glock G18c replica pistol. (Its not really a Glock g18c, but is a clone and shoots BBs, the Slide doesnt have the Glock markings, but it is meant to function the same as aforementioned pistol. It is about the safety switch. Here goes:

On my "Glock G18c" (actually customized upgraded KWA G18c,) the Safety is -engaged- (as in the trigger won't fire the firing pin, or it puts the block in the way, so the 'safety' is ON) when the switch is at a 45-degree angle to the slide? (On a Beretta, you would also see the red dot to signal that the safety is ON in this position, right?) - And the safety is -disengaged- when the safety switch is level with the slide, both horizontal, yes?

Im asking because I refuse to dry-fire my gun. My dad had a .357 magnum (the one that has the wood handle, not Combat magnum) with 6" barrel and it was a sweet pistol, and he let me hold it but said "Dry-firing it is the worst thing you can do, I never dry-fired mine, so just hold it." Same with my KWA (custom) G18c.

It also appears to be oiled nice, I didnt even move the slide back yet due to no BBs to load concerns, and I was wondering how often I should 'oil' it. I probably will seldom shoot it.

Thanks, any advice on this about the operation and maintenance of a semiautomatic design is appreciated.

PS: Naturally, the Smith & Wesson was a 6-shot revolver, and a .357 magnum at that, so no Im not calling that a semi-auto, no way lol, I just included that as a reference. .357 has to be one of the best rounds you can buy in terms of power and defense, and is also very very powerful for a handgun, right? I have a BB Gun, so i just thought I would give that 6" barrel .357 magnum revolver its credit. I used to know the model of it, it had the black barrel and wood handle, it wasnt the combat magnum. Oh well. Just to clarify, thanks.

How much do you think I can get for my SMITH & WESSON SIGMA .40 S&W HANDGUN if I went to a Gun Show and tried to trade it for another pistol.

I am an avid shooter, I go about 2-3x a week and shoot between 300-1000 shots a week. I was wondering if after BTE, AIT, and Specialty school if you are allowed to wear your own sidearm (as long as it matches military caliber). Also what kind of handguns do soldiers carry? I would like to bring my Smith and Wesson M&P 9mm or .40, or my Kimber .45, is this a possibility?
300-1000 rounds, not shots, on a spectrum of firearms.
cowboys? how would wanting a sidearm I am more comftorable and qualified with make me a cowboy? quite the opposite, but I appreciate the superflous comment, dick.
what is the standard issued firearm, brand, caliber, and capacity?
I hate how the beretta m9 is 1. very wide and 2. has a long trigger pull for the 1st shot, then becomes a single action after that. thank you for the answers though.

I bought a Hi Point .40 caliber Smith & Wesson handgun w/ optional laser including 50 bullets for 329.99 dollars. Is this a good deal?

It's a Hi-point gun model JCP .40 cal S&W

I bought a .40 caliber Smith & Wesson handgun w/ optional laser including 50 bullets for 329.99 dollars. Is this a good deal?

Also it's brand new in the box...

What is the difference between the Smith&Wesson models 637 and 637-2?

I want something with knockdown power but not enough power to penetrate walls and pose a danger to other tenants. I heard a shotgun is a good option, but I'd prefer a handgun for a potential close-combat situation. I'm looking at the Smith and Wesson M&P line right now. What caliber and ammo type should I get to avoid penetrating walls?

i am buying a handgun for protection as well as shooting with my friends which one of the guns above should i go with and should i go with a .40 please let me know asap
k thanks again everyone keep them coming i still need to find out which one of those is the best i am leaning toward the XD right now and i am feeling that i should get a .40 but i am starting to feel like the .45 is the way to go so let me know what you think.

As a peace officer, does the emergence of high powered handguns trouble you? If you approached a driver during a routine traffic stop and he/she fired an extra-large frame revolver at your center mass at point-blank range, what are the chances of survival? The Smith & Wesson XVR in .460 and .500S&W seem like they could defeat most ballistic vests, especially with the right ammunition.

it needs to be
*smith and wesson
*small frame
*with hammer
*blue steel

I will be ordering a Smith and Wesson M&P handgun. I already have a 9mm handgun so I will order either the .40 or .45. They are almost the same price, the gun will be used mostly as a range toy, but will also be a home defense tool. Although my 12-gauge pump will most likely be what I'd grab if need be.

A quick perusal of ammunition shows the .40 to be nominally cheaper than the .45 ammo. The guy at the gun store said he preferred the recoil of the .45 to that of the .40?

A) Is there really much of a difference in recoil? (i.e. .40 "snappiness")

B) Is it worth paying the extra $10/50 rounds for the .45?

C) Is the .45 a better home defense tool (i.e. bigger hole)
Gun store officianado said the .40 had "more snappy muzzzle flip" while the heavier recoil of the .45 was easier to control.
Yah, I suppose I should shoot them again. I have shot both the .40 and .45 but not in the same model. To me, I didn't feel much diff. that I can remember, but they were different range trips, so its hard to compare.
bobbo- I have read that the M&P is much better than the Sigma and is ultimately comparable to a Glock, possibly better (i.e. steel guide rod, take down lever, grip angle, etc.)

I am looking for my first handgun, concealed carry for personal protection. I was looking into buying a Glock 26 or a Glock 19. I have fired both handguns at my local gun shop but, did not both. The Glocks did not feel right in my hand but the trigger pull was very smooth and easy. Lately, I have been looking at the Smith & Wesson M&P compact in 9mm, I really like the looks, weight, but the trigger pull is 10 lb oppose to the Glock 5.5 trigger pull. I was wondering if anyone has fired the S&W M&P compact to tell me how the trigger pull feels and any options on other handguns. Thank You for answering my question.

For my B-day my dad was talking to me about giving him my Browning Bt-99 shotgun for a hand gun. So I am looking for a good hand gun thats a 9 mm semi auto police gun. So if you have any ideas please tell them. Not the Smith and Wesson M&P 40 though because we already have that so any other ideas. Thank

Ten points for best answer!!

Well I bought a M3000 Airsoft Shotgun (Smith and Wesson Brand) but it has a stalk, but then I later on found out there was a handgun handle one. Is there any store/website that actually sells the handgun handle part and is there anyway I can modify my shotgun?

I'm about to buy one of these two handguns, but im undecided on which to get. Which one is just an overall better handgun? And which will last longer? Thanks!

Which would be a better gun for CC? They are both 40 cal handguns. The m&p has a 3.5" barrel, and the Glock has a 4" barrel.

What I wanna know is, if im gonna spend 800 dollars on a gun, which one is the best brand? Glock, Beretta, Smith & Wesson, Firestorm etc.? The one that is over all best brand. Ex., little recoil, reliable, long lasting, even better looking, and so on? and if possible which one is the best caliber?
